NEWSFLASH: There IS actually a secret sauce to living your best life, and it is as easy as discovering what “your best life” is, forming a plan and cultivating the new habits to support what you want for yourself. Staying consistent is key, and this post is here to help you with ways to make it happen for you!

You’ve likely heard that it takes X amount of days or months for a new habit to become automatic. That is maybe why many of us try to change habits or form new ones, and fail ….over and over again.

Jennifer here! Trying to start living your best life, are ya? Well, you need a plan, and I am going to be honest – it’s going to take some work! Read this post to see how it can become easier and second nature to live your best life, even as the definition of “Your Best Life” changes…

1. Envision Your Best Life

First, you need to determine what your unique best life is, then write down what it is that your best life would include. I HIGHLY recommend a dream board or intention board, but at the very least a list or Pinterest board with your tangible goals for your best life. Whatever you desire to change in your life, it all starts with envisioning the situation you’d like to be in, then finding what needs to be done to get there. Anything is possible, so make sure you are honest with what your dream life is – then go for it!

2. Find Your Inspiration

DO NOT skip out on this part, I know it might seem a little strange if you’ve never thought about what your ideal life would look like, but just go with it. Dream as big as you can and visually experience the life you want by seeking out inspiration and documenting it. I highly recommend a physical reminder of what you are aiming for, and if you’ve never designed a dream board before, I’ll tell you-it’s pretty fun! As you may have guessed, it starts with making a list. Once you have a written down list of all the things you’d ideally have in your best life, you’ll need to find a space in your home that you’d like to put up your dream board or display your best life in a way that will continually inspire you.

3. Create A Dream Board

A dream board can be as simple as construction paper with magazine cut-outs, or as complex as what you’d find on luxury bloggers’ Pinterest accounts. If you just can’t bring yourself to create a physical dream board, you can definitely set yourself on a secret board on Pinterest and collect inspiration that way. There are even apps for creating vision or dream boards now, but honestly an old school stick it on the wall type is what I recommend. Find what will work for you, as long as you can see it often and reflect and update it as your desires change, you’ll be good. When you have a visual representation of the things that would be involved in your best life, you can remember to work toward developing them each and every day.

4. Set Your Intentions

Next, you will need to determine what it is going to take to reach the place that you’ve outlined. Make S.M.A.R.T. goals (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely) so that you can be on your way to your best life ASAP (As Soon As Possible). See what I did there? Post your S.M.A.R.T. goals on your dream board to keep them fresh in your mind everyday as you go about your business. The cool thing is, once you start this process, you will find that reaching your goals leads to learning about new ways that you can enhance your life. After one milestone is met, make another… and another… and another. It’s really fun and satisfying to make goals and achieve them, I promise you won’t regret building your dream life!

5. Prioritize Everything

In order to make significant changes in your life to reach the goals that you set out, chances are you will need to rearrange your priorities a little… or a lot. Make sure that every day you are present in the moment and deciding how to use your time to best meet your goals. Practice self care and self love to keep your whole self healthy, inside and out. Deal with stress and help prevent it from hitting you hard. Take a walk, exercise, and do the things that make you happy while getting your required tasks done. Meditate daily and utilize affirmations to develop and enhance your positive mindset. Surround yourself with positive people and limit time in situations with negativity.

6. Keep Yourself Accountable!

Check yourself in your downtime – are you mindlessly scrolling through social media for hours on end after work, then wondering why you’ve not been meeting your goals? Or, are you working on a project that brings you satisfaction since you’ve kept yourself accountable to put the effort in? Acknowledge both achievements and failures, and learn from both to keep moving onward and upward. Caring for yourself means giving yourself some slack, but also keeping yourself accountable. Everyone needs to relax, but when you keep yourself accountable to make use of your time wisely and with intention, you will be more equipped to meet the goals you’ve outlined to live your best life.
